Liberia: British priest free
Fr Garry Jenkins, who was abducted by rebels in Liberia during fighting in Tubmanburg, two weeks ago has been released. The Missionary News Service reported around 9pm last night that the 60 year-old SMA (Society of Missions of Africa) missionary had been handed over to church representatives in neighbouring Guinea. A delegation of Liberian Christian and Muslim leaders is said to have negotiated his release. . Fr Garry was guiding 60 blind civilians away from the war zone when he was captured by LURD rebels. There is no news of their fate yet. Mgr Alberto Bottari, Apostolic Nuncio in Conakry (Guinea), said: "He is well, has eaten and will stay with us for a few days." Fr Garry, who is originally from Brighton, has worked in Liberia for 30 years.
