Rome: Muslims and Catholics united against racism

Muslim and Catholic leaders have agreed to continue to work together to promote a culture of dialogue which they hope will filter into their communities and help eradicate racism. In a joint statement this week, the Committee for Islamic-Catholic Dialogue followed up last months' meeting to discuss religion and racism, with a commitment to "eliminate misconception and prejudices which in turn generate racial discrimination". Outlining points of agreement between them the delegates insisted that "adherence to religious values and engaging in dialogue to achieve mutual understand and mutual respect are conducive to a world of justice and peace. "...our religions both teach that Almighty God has created all people equal in dignity and, therefore, we reject every form of racism". The Committee was formed four years ago to promote dialogue between Christians and Muslims. Since then it has held eight meetings internationally, the most recent last month in England.
