New York police bring Ground Zero cross to Pope
A delegation of New York Port Authority policemen presented Pope John Paul II with a cross, made of metal from the rubble at Ground Zero, during his general audience this morning. Thirty-eight of their colleagues died on September 11. Speaking at today's general audience in St Peter's Square, the Pope paid homage to them. He said in English: "I greet the delegation from the Port Authority Police Department of New York and New Jersey, who honour their fellow officers who gave their lives in last year's terrorist attack on New York City."
