Bishops' statement on resignation of Cardinal Law
The Catholic Bishops' Conference of England and Wales notes the Pope's decision to accept Cardinal Bernard Law's resignation from his post as Archbishop of Boston, United States, and the reason Cardinal Law has given for resigning: to "help the Archdiocese of Boston to experience the healing, reconciliation and unity which are so desperately needed". Cardinal Law has repeatedly apologised for his "shortcomings and mistakes" and begged forgiveness from those who have suffered. The Archdiocese of Boston said today it is continuing to reach out to victims of clerical abuse to try to heal their deep wounds. Our thoughts and prayers are with them in this vital work.
