Filipino Christmas in Durham

Philippine carols will be sung at the English Martyrs, Church, Stockton-on-Tees, during midnight Mass on Christmas Eve by a group of newly-recruited Filipino nurses. "We are looking forward to them singing at Christmas they are a good crowd," said parish priest Fr Lawrence Jones. He said parishioners loved the 50 nurses who regularly attend services at the church. Two have become readers. "We met them when they arrived and told them about the parish and Mass times. A lot of them call in at the church to pray on their way to work." Fr Jones said some of the nurses had now moved to other parishes as their husbands and families have joined them and they have found new accommodation. The nurses are based at North Tees Hospital, Stockton, and at Hartlepool. "Patients adore them because they are so dedicated and very caring," said Fr Jones.
