Washington: peace service for Martin Luther King Day

Christian peace campaigners in Washington DC, are planning to hold a special prayer service on Martin Luther King Day, next Monday, January 20 from 2.30-4.30pm. The service will take place at the Cathedral of St Peter and St Paul, (Washington National Cathedral) on Massachusetts and Wisconsin Ave.

An organiser said: "As our government seems bent on pre-emptive war, and as we celebrate the life and prophetic challenge of Dr King, we will be praying for the leaders of our world to seek just and peaceful solutions to conflict."

The service will be followed by a procession and vigil at the White House. Speakers will include: Bishop John Chane, Episcopal Diocese of Washington; Marian Wright Edelman, of the Children's Defense Fund and Jim Wallis, from the Sojourners.
