Exodus: work by Catholic director at London Film Festival

British film-maker Penny Woolcock has produced a brilliant contemporary take on the Old Testament Exodus story, set in Margate in the near future. It's exciting, dynamic, thought-provoking and yes, it includes all the plagues and the parting of the sea ... She collaborated with sculptor Anthony Gormley, and the film includes the construction and destruction of his WasteMan.

The director, Penny Woolcock, is a Catholic, and lives in Westminster Diocese. This is the first feature film from collaborative artists organisation Artangel.

I saw a rough cut a few months ago, and was inspired, challenged and excited about how this ancient tale, and its dramatic contents, had taken new shape in Penny's imagination and been realised on the big screen. It's definitely worth a look, and you can see it as part of the London Film Festival:

Exodus is being screened on Friday 19th October 9pm at the Odeon West End 1 Friday 26th October at the Ritzy Cinema in Brixton as part of the london film festival.
