Kenya: Catholic radio station to be launched

The Catholic Church in Kenya launches its first radio station on 6 July, the Catholic Information Service Africa report. The station, Radio Waumini, will be transmitting on 88.5 FM. It is situated near the Queen of Apostles Parish and Minor Seminary in Ruaraka, Nairobi. During the 2002 World Communications Day on 12 May the church announced the good news that it had been granted the license to broadcast. Radio Waumini will broadcast a mix of world and domestic news, the Gospel, prayer, discussions, music and special programmes for young people - 24 hours a day. The Catholic Bishops of Kenya said: "Radio Waumini will be at the service of the Gospel. It is an instrument of evangelization and promotion of all the initiatives and activities of the Catholic Church in Kenya. At the same time Radio Waumini is for all Kenyans, because it wants to celebrate the diversity of contemporary Kenya, affirming all that is life-giving, and striving to promote justice, peace, solidarity, tolerance, reconciliation and understanding amongst all people." The bishops are appealing for funds and volunteers to support the station. Source: CISA
