Uganda: Comboni missionary killed

Comboni missionary Father Luciano Fulvi, 76, was found dead yesterday morning in his room in the mission of Layibi, on the outskirts of Gulu, North Uganda. Colleagues looked for the Italian missionary after he failed to arrive for Mass, and they noticed his bicycle had not been moved. When they went to his room they discovered his body in a pool of blood. His throat had been cut. The Missionary News Service say that the killers may have entered the mission by climbing a wall that divides the courtyard from a eucalyptus forest. The night before, as usual, around 800 people had taken shelter in the mission from fear of an attack by rebels of the LRA (Lord's Resistance Army) that has ben causing death and destruction in the are for for over 18 years. The missionaries say they have no idea who the killers were. The police have opened an inquiry. The community of Layibi were expecting their provincial superior, Father Guido Oliana, to arrive last night. Source: MISNA
