Pope expresses grief over Caribbean flood victims
Pope John Paul II today sent a message of condolence for victims of the floods on the island of Hispaniola. Hundreds have died and many more have lost their homes in the Dominican Republic and Haiti. In the message, issued by the State Secretary Monsignor Angelo Sodano, the Pope expressed "profound sorrow" over the news of the violent flooding and said he was praying for all those affected by the floods. He said that God inspires Christian solidarity in those able to work together to remedy the tragic effects of the natural catastrophe. source: VIS
