Brazil: man charged with murder of Sister Dorothy

One man has been charged with the killing of missionary sister Dorothy Stang. Amair Freijoli da Cunha, known as 'Tato', is one of the four men police were searching for in connection with the crime. The 73 year old missionary nun was shot on February 12 in Para province. Tato decided to give himself up but denied any responsibility for the crime, according to the official Brasilian news agency (Agencia Brasil). The state of Para has been hit by growing violence in recent months as loggers and ranchers try to seize control of the Amazon lands from the local population. Sister Stang was working among the native people and helping them win the rights to their land. Source: MISNA
