Stonyhurst Observatory in BBC climate change series
The programme, called The History of Climate Change will be aired at 7pm, and will feature the important meteorological research undertaken by three of Stonyhurst's astronomer Jesuit priests during the Victorian and Edwardian eras. It will be presented by Dr Iain Stewart, who presented the recent series called Earth: The Power of the Planet.
A BBC film crew visited Stonyhurst College last April and filmed footage of the observatory, which is well known for its scientific activities, including meteorological records and the observing of sunspots. The BBC is interested in sunspots in particular because they are a measure of solar activity and the series will look at the sun's potential influence on climate.
