North Yorkshire: work starts on new church
Bishop Terry Drainey of Middlesbrough operated a mechanical digger this week to start work on a new Catholic Church at Guisborough in North Yorkshire.
The £1.6 million church will end 40 years of delays and planning problems which have beset the project to replace the 81-year-old church in the town centre which is now too small for the Catholic population of the growing market town.
Nearly 100 parishoners applauded the ceremony which include a blessing for the site and prayers for success.
