Campaigners to daub MOD with ash
Christian anti-nuclear campaigners will meet in London later tomorrow (Ash Wednesday) to participate in an annual liturgy of Repentance and Resistance to nuclear war preparations.
Using the traditional symbols of the day blessed ash and charcoal, the campaigners will gather outside the Ministry of Defence to call on the
Government to repent and reject nuclear weapons and nuclear war preparations through liturgical witness and acts of nonviolent civil disobedience.
During the course of the liturgy, the Ministry of Defence will be marked with blessed charcoal. The campaigners will urge the Government to cancel
its programme to upgrade the existing nuclear weapons programme Trident.
The liturgy will start at Embankment Gardens at 3pm and participants will then process around the MOD in Horseguards Avenue. The action, organized
by Pax Christi with Catholic Peace Action and Christian CND, is now in its 18th year.
