London: invitation to pray for the BBC

All Soul's Langham Place

All Soul's Langham Place

At this turbulent time for the Corporation, BBC staff and members of the public are invited to join in prayer for the BBC, its people and its future, at a special service at All Soul's Langham Place, next to New Broadcasting House on Thursday, 15 November, from 6.30 - 8pm.

The gathering is open to people of all Christian traditions and none. Prayers will be led in short sessions so that you can come and go at will. They will include times for silence and reflection as well as short acts of corporate prayer. The gathering will be led by Andrew Graystone, Director of the Church and Media Network and presenter of BBC Radio 4's Daily Service.

Please pass this information on to others who may be interested. People who are unable to join us may like to use the prayer for the BBC to be found here.

A prayer for the BBC

God who spoke the world into being and communicates with us still today;

We give you thanks for the BBC, for its rich heritage, and the vital part that it plays in the life of this nation.

We give thanks for its writers, producers, broadcasters and journalists, and all who work for the organisation.

We thank you for their creative skills and technical abilities, and their commitment to high production values.

We acknowledge that sometimes standards can slip, and we pray for a speedy resolution and a striving after truth.

We ask that all who work for the BBC may have wisdom, integrity, insight and judgement in their work.

May they continue to be a voice for the powerless, a challenge to the powerful; bringers of knowledge and clarity to an uncertain and confused world.

Help them to reach for the highest professional standards, especially when budgets are stretched, time is tight, and competition increasing.

May they resist the temptation to follow the consensus, jump to easy conclusions, pander to prejudice or cut corners.

Help us, who read, watch, listen and contribute to the BBC, to play our part by being wise and discerning, so that truth and beauty will be the hallmarks of our media.

We offer this prayer in the Name of the One who brought the Good News, declared himself as the Truth, and gave Himself for a world in need.

Amen.

Andrew Graystone
