Liverpool: Archbishop to miss Holy Week services

The Archbishop of Liverpool, Rt Reverend Patrick Kelly, will miss Easter services this year because is having a hip operation. Archbishop Kelly is due to enter hospital on 14 March and will be recuperating for at least two months, said an archdiocese spokesman.

This means he will not be celebrating any Holy Week services at the Metropolitan Cathedral of Christ The King. Retired auxiliary Bishop Vincent Malone will take his place.

The Morecambe-born archbishop celebrates 49 years as a priest on 16 February.

Archbishop Patrick has been Archbishop of Liverpool since 1996, previously he had been bishop of neighbouring Salford Diocese for 12 years.

The Archdiocese of Liverpool covers Merseyside, South West Lancashire, part of Greater Manchester and The Isle of Man.
