ICN contributor shortlisted for top award
The human rights campaigner, journalist and writer Clare Sambrook, who regularly contributes to ICN, has just been shortlisted for the Paul Foot award for her investigatve reports on the treatment of asylum seekers. Together with six friends, Clare started the End Child Detention Now campaign. Her work has been published in dozens of newspapers, magazines and news sites.
She has also written a novel Hide and Seek, which came out in more than a dozen languages in 2005, becoming a New York Times editor’s choice and a Daily Mail book club selection. Short-listed for the YoungMinds Award (for books that illuminate children’s thinking), long-listed for the Prince Maurice Prize, Hide & Seek is a Canongate title. She has performed at Edinburgh and Hay, at the Harrogate Crime Writing Festival, the Edinburgh Radical Book Fair, Kendal Brewery and Tullie House.
Clare told ICN: "It’s a real honour for me personally to be shortlisted for the Paul Foot Award. His journalism was a big influence on me. It’s terrific news for the campaign, especially since the government has reneged on its pledge to end child detention and the fight must go on."
The winner of the 2010 Paul Foot award will be announced on 2 November. We hope she wins!
