Sebastian Faulks at Brook Green book festival

This month, leading authors will be gathering at the third Brook Green Book Festival to share insights about the craft of writing and to answer questions about their work. The festival is organized by Holy Trinity Church in west London.

Best-selling author Sebastian Faulks is among those lined up. His novel Birdsong sold more than three million copies worldwide. Another novel Charlotte Gray was filmed, starring Cate Blanchett. His latest novel, A Week in December follows seven diverse characters in London. He wrote an official James Bond novel, Devil May Care, which went to No 1 on the UK best seller list. On 14 October he speaks on, 'Making it up: The only thing a novelist can offer.'

The festival opens on 11 October with Piers Paul Read interviewed by radio journalist Sarah Montague about his new novel The Misogynist. This depicts a lonely, embittered lawyer living in Shepherds Bush who struggles to find meaning in life.

We mark the 70th anniversary of the Battle of Britain on 12 October with Patrick Bishop on 'The Significance of the Battle of Britain, Then and Now.' He is a renowned writer on RAF history. Distinguished biographer Sir Michael Holroyd comes on the 13 October to talk about the art of biography and his new work A Book of Secrets tracing the lives of three remarkable women.

Father Terry Tastard, who writes the Sunday Reflection, is parish priest at Holy Trinity Church.
