When Pope Benedict XV1 visited Westminster Cathedral on Saturday, the security was very strict and much of the stewarding was carried out by members of the Catholic Police Guild as well as the Catenian Association.

Their job was to check the credentials of the 1,739 invited pilgrims before allowing them to enter the Cathedral.

One of the pilgrims was the well - known Irish comedian, Frank "It's the way I tell 'em" Carson, who quipped on his way in: "The Pope has asked me to do a ten minute slot!"

Pictured left to right are CPG members, Chris Sloan, Annette Murphy, Maurice Smith, Kathleen Aubeelack, Tom Ford and John Kenny. Maurice (West Middlesex Circle), Tom (London Central Circle) and John (Norwich Circle) are also Catenians.
