Archbishop leads Padley Martyrs pilgrimage
Archbishop Vincent Nichols lead this year's Padley Pilgrimage in Derbyshire last Sunday. The annual pilgrimage to Padley Manor House celebrates the lives and deaths of Nicholas Garlick and Robert Ludlam - known as the Padley Martyrs - who died for their faith more than 400 years ago.
The two men were convicted of treason on 23 July 1588 and executed the following day on St Mary's Bridge at Derby. Parishioners from the dioceses of Hallam and Nottingham gathered at the historic Padley Manor House, set in the beautiful Derbyshire countryside, for the special Mass, which was celebrated by Archbishop Vincent Nichols with Bishop Malcolm Macmahon and Bishop John Rawsthorne.
