Last week ICN carried the story of the British De La Salle missionary laybrother Paul McAuley, who was told to leave Peru, where he has served for 20 years, after the authorities accused him of inciting unrest among indigenous peoples, protesting over the environmental damage caused by oil drilling in the Amazon rainforest. On Wednesday evening, Channel Four 4 News carried a report from Peru by Jonathan Rugman with exclusive interviews and rarely-seen footage from the Peruvian rainforests where remote Indian tribes are becoming victims of a land grab by multinational oil companies and the Peruvian state.
