Spirit in the West End

London's three West End churches: Corpus Christi in Covent Garden, the French Church in Leicester Square and Warwick Street are once again gearing up for the Spirit in the City Festival - a celebration that brings faith directly into the heart of the capital. More than 30,000 people are expected to attend the the event which begin this Thursday afternoon, 3 June, ending on Saturday 5 June with an all-day festival in Leicester Square.

Throughout the three days there will be street outreach, evening prayer in Soho square, processions, live music from the likes of St Patrick’s Gospel Choir, Noel Robinson and Crossbeam as some quiet time for reflection and Adoration. Archbishop Vincent Nichols and Franciscan Fr Stan Fortuna are among the headline speakers.

Fr Martin McAnaney of Notre Dame de France, Leicester Square said: “the diversity and energy of the West End is the reason we hold a festival of this sort there. Spirit in the City is testament to the fact that the Church is alive and that the Holy Spirit is working in the lives of many. Catholics who attend the festival realise that even though faith in Christ is personal, it cannot be a private affair. We are called to share the good news”.
