Hundreds of secondary school students from all over London will walk from Hyde Park Corner to Westminster Cathedral in the Catholic Children's Society 'Walk a Mile in Their Shoes' event on Wednesday. The event will conclude with an ecumenical service at Westminster Cathedral presided over by Monsignor Seamus O'Boyle, the Vicar General of the Diocese of Westminster.

Walk a Mile in Their Shoes is a pilgrimage march through London, which goes via Constitution Hill and passes by Buckingham Palace. Some four hundred students are expected to take part in the walk, all of whom have been fundraising for the Catholic Children's Society. Each student will get their own souvenir t-shirt, with the slogan 'Walk a Mile in Their Shoes', and will carry a stone blessed by the Nuns of Tyburn. The service will lively, with many of the schools preparing music and dance segments which will be performed inside the Cathedral.

This year's 'Walk a Mile in Their Shoes' has a special significance for the Catholic Children Society as 2009 marks its 150th anniversary of working to help children in the Diocese. Jim Richards, CEO of the Catholic Children's Society, said "As we celebrate the 150th anniversary of our founding, this event is a great tribute to the young people from our Catholic schools. They have demonstrated such solidarity with those less fortunate than themselves in taking part in this pilgrimage march."

Monsignor Seamus O'Boyle, the Vicar General said: 'It is not easy to walk in other people's shoes and to see things from other people's point of view. But in attempting to do so, we can learn things from others, especially through the good work that people do for the less fortunate.'
