Jesuits launch new range of workshops and courses

The Mount Street Jesuit Centre in central London has announced its new programme of talks and courses for 2009/10. The Centre provides a place where Christians can explore and deepen their faith through a wide range of workshops, discussions and activities, underpinned by the Spiritual Exercises of St Ignatius Loyola.

The 2009/10 programme falls broadly into two groups: On-going Faith Formation and Spirituality.

On-going Faith Formation events are designed to help people grow in knowledge and understanding of their faith, to encourage them to reflect on their experiences and to participate more in the life and mission of the Church both as individuals and within their communities. This year sees a move away from longer modular courses of previous programmes, to shorter courses which hopefully offer greater diversity and choice to
participants. They vary between two and eight sessions and take place either on Saturdays or on weekday mornings or evenings. Subjects range from the New Testament to the Second Vatican Council, and from the Sacraments to the Old Testament Prophets.

The Mount Street Jesuit Centre's Spirituality programme provides a variety of opportunities for people to gain greater knowledge and love of God, themselves, the world and their place within it. There are one day midweek workshops and short courses or series of talks either in the daytime or evening. Themes for the autumn include the Catholic Devotional Life, Growing in Confidence and using Imaginative Contemplation to 'pray' the Gospel of Luke.

Additionally, there are almost 30 One Day Saturday Workshops covering such topics as the challenge of homelessness, the changing face of parish life, and what it means to forgive. Participants can also design their own Pastoral Skills Programme, which offers them the chance to develop their knowledge of God, Church Teaching and practical skills for pastoral ministry, with the support of one to one mentoring and/or spiritual direction.
