Pray-as-you-go, the web site developed by Jesuit Media Initiatives in London, has won the award for the most innovative web site in the 2009 Church Website of the Year Awards. The competition was organised by Surefish.co.uk, a community web site from Christian Aid, in association with the Church Times, to recognise the best local, regional and national church websites, as well as the best blog, youth website and most innovative site. The awards were presented by Songs of Praise presenter, Pam Rhodes, at Christian Aid's offices in Waterloo.

Surefish Editor, Andy Jackson, praised the high quality of entries, which meant that the judges' job in selecting a winner was far harder than they had expected. In presenting the award to pray-as-you-go producer, Ruth Morris, Ms Rhodes commended the site's design, ease of use, navigation, use of images, quality of content, search results ranking, engagement with new visitors to the site, use of internet technology and freshness.

Ruth accepted the award for the most innovative web site from the Chair of Judges, Kathryn Corrick, who is a freelance digital media consultant and strategist, involved in online publishing, advertising, event management and PR. Ruth said afterwards: "We are reminded daily of the benefits that users of pray-as-you-go derive from the service because of all the messages and emails that we receive. Now, to have that acknowledged too by our internet peers is enormously gratifying."

Pray-as-you-go provides daily prayer in MP3 format, for people travelling to and from work. An open, public trial of pray-as-you-go was conducted during Lent 2006, and then extended into the Easter season. After more than 250,000 prayer sessions were downloaded by people all over the world, it was decided to continue pray-as-you-go indefinitely. Since its inception just over three years ago, more than ten million prayer sessions have been downloaded from www.pray-as-you-go.org
