Catholic mother seeks legal help after council places son with gay foster parents

A Catholic mother is reported to be launching a legal battle after Brighton and Hove Council placed her ten year old son with gay foster parents. The child is due to arrive today at his new foster home, a hotel in Brighton, run by a middle aged male couple.

The woman has said that she is worried about the environment in which her son will grow up, and would prefer to see him fostered by a Catholic couple, or at least by a man and a woman.

The boy was placed in care a year ago after his mother had a mental breakdown.
 
The Thomas More Legal Centre, a Catholic legal charity, are representing the mother.

Neil Addison, director of the centre, said: "We are advising her on her legal options and seeking to resolve the matter with the council by agreement."

 A friend of the mother said: "She would prefer a Catholic couple, but if that is not possible, at least a heterosexual one. But social services have given her no choice."

The council, which has one of the highest rates of gay adopting and fostering in Britain, has told the mother that the new foster parents are experienced and fully qualified. The council declined to comment on this case.
