London: open day at Catholic psychotherapy centre

Health, education and childcare professionals are invited to an open day at Bishop Harvey Family Service in Muswell Hill, to find out more about the psychotherapeutic services on offer and to meet the team.

Peter Wilson, Consultant Child and Adolescent Psychotherapist and co-founder of YoungMinds, a mental health charity for children and young people, will be talking on "The Children We Have" during the open day on Monday 22 June from 12pm-2.30pm.

Peter will be exploring the increase in mental health problems amongst children and the pressures placed upon them by modern society, highlighting the need for more services for children and families such as those offered by the Bishop Harvey Family Service.

Patsy Ryz, the coordinator of the service said: "since 1994, over 1,000 children and families have benefited from our unique early intervention service. As we do not have a waiting list, we can intervene at an early stage before a child's mental health problem becomes entrenched and more difficult to resolve. In at least one London Borough, the Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service has a waiting time of up to 18 months-an incredibly long time in the life of a child."

The Catholic Children's Society (Westminster) was established in 1859 and provides child care services to assist children and families in need, irrespective of race or faith, in the Diocese of Westminster. With 150 years of experience of working with children and families we recognise that families come in all shapes and sizes and from widely ranging cultural, ethnic and religious backgrounds.

Bishop Harvey Family Service has been established for ten years. A team of Child and Adolescent Psychotherapists offer to help children, adolescents and families who are experiencing behavioural and emotional difficulties. Using an effective model of short-term intervention, services are confidential, non-denominational and available to all, irrespective of race or creed. There is no waiting list. Contact Patsy Ryz, Consultant Child and Adolescent Psychotherapist and Service Coordinator telephone 020 8883 7826 or email PatsyR@cathchild.org.uk for enquiries about the service.
