Catholic bishop's tribute to Lord Coggan
The following comment was made last night by the Most Rev Michael Bowen, Archbishop of Southwark and President of the Catholic Bishops's Conference of England and Wales, on hearing of the death of Lord Coggan, former Archbishop of Canterbury: On behalf of the Catholic Bishops of England and Wales I wish to offer our condolences on the death of Dr Donald Coggan. He was a learned man who brought gentleness and sensitivity to his role as Archbishop of Canterbury. He will be remembered for his significant commitment to the cause of ecumenism and inter-faith relations. His wife and family will be in our prayers at this time, as will the Anglican community he served so well.
