Angel of the North debt vigil
A huge vigil is being planned at the Angel of the North near Newcastle-upon-Tyne on 22 July. Organised to coincide with the G8 summit in Okinawa, Japan, there will be prayers, a rich/poor picnic, updates on the Jubilee 2000 campaign, voices of experience, Japanese kites and cranes. Organiser Pat Devlin from CAFOD said: "World leaders have betrayed the hopes of the poor and of millions of debt relief campaigners who wanted to mark the Millennium by wiping out Third World debt. It's time for Tony Blair and others to prove their promises were not just empty rhetoric. "We would like to ask as many people as possible to come and join us. There's still time to organise the biggest celebration of the Millennium." The vigil starts at 12 noon. For more information call Pat on: 0191 2272 2962.
