Diplomat and bicycle maker honoured by the Queen

Brother Trevor Robinson, a missionary in the Society of the Missionaries of Africa (The White Fathers), received the MBE last week from her Majesty the Queen at Buckingham Palace. The award was given for services rendered to the disabled and disadvantaged in Ghana. Bro Trevor has been working in Ghana as a missionary for the past 32 years. For a number of these, he has acted as the Honorary Consul of the British High Commission in the northern region of Ghana. He said: "This award is a tribute to all of us, women and men, colleagues and others, who are working for the disadvantaged in Ghana. We just wanted to give these people a sense of dignity and mobility." Bro Trevor began his service in Wa diocese where he trained many young men to become mechanics. Since 1992, he has been working in Tamale diocese where he has trained a team of young men to make wheelchair tricycles. So far they have made more than 200. Born in Preston, Bro Trevor was brought up in Horsforth, Leeds, where he joined the Missionaries of Africa. His work as Honorary Consul, mechanic and bicycle maker has made him many friends. A young Moslem man thanked him for his tricycle recently saying: "Now I will be able to go to the mosque every Friday and there I will pray for you."
