Queen to meet Pope

The Queen was due to arrive in Italy today. During her visit she is scheduled to meet Pope John Paul II. Buckingham Palace has pointed out that the Queen is meeting the Pope in her capacity as head of state and not in her role as Supreme Governor of the Church of England. Following the royal visit to the Vatican City will be a trip to Rome's Anglican Centre. Other highlights of the state visit will include a trip to Milan and a concert at the world-famous La Scala opera house. The Queen and Prince Philip will also view Leonardo da Vinci's Last Supper at the Convent of Santa Maria delle Grazie.
