The Queen and Pope speak of reconciliation
The Queen and Pope John Paul II spoke for twenty minutes in private when they met in Rome yesterday. It was more than twenty years since their last meeting. A Vatican spokesman said they discussed a number of subjects including Northern Ireland and reconciliation between the Anglican and Roman Catholic churches. At the end of their meeting they exchanged gifts. The Queen gave the Pope a collection of prints by Canaletto. He presented her with a rare 13th century edition of the Bible.
