Mass for London murder victim
A London parish held a special Mass last night for a woman who was murdered yards from their front door. More than 50 parishioners gathered at St Aloysius church in Euston, in memory of Liz Sherlock, the BBC costume designer who was killed by muggers who had stolen her handbag last Monday. Mrs Sherlock, who lived in Chiswick, west London, was having a cup of coffee with her husband, while waiting for a train at Euston station, when thieves snatched her bag. She chased after them and died after they ran her over in their getaway car. Parishioner, Dr Peter Slade, suggested the service. He said the whole community had been terribly shocked by the tragedy and they wanted to express their sympathy to Mrs Sherlock's family. Fr Remigius Owuamanam, who celebrated Mass, said: "This is a good way for local people to remember Mrs Sherlock. I hope it brings some comfort to her family." One of the Mass readers, John Toomey, said: "I would like to express our deepest sympathy to Mr Sherlock, Liz's husband, for the tragic event that took place last week. We will always remember them in our prayers and especially on future Easter weekends."
