Peace campaigners plan marathon walk
CND Chair Dave Knight, chair of CND, and Bruce Kent, CND Vice-President will be setting out on a 300 mile fundraising 'walk for the world' on 16 July. Leaving Faslane nuclear submarine base on 16 July, they should end their trek at Fylingdales early warning base on 4 August. The route will pass through Dumbarton, Clydebank, Bathgate, Edinburgh, Galashiels, Langholm, Carlisle, Haltwistle, Newcastle, Durham, Hartlepool, Guisborough and Whitby. The pair will be drawing attention to the two lost issues of the recent General Election campaign - Trident and Missile Defence - by speaking with church and community groups, attending civic receptions and talking to local media along the route. Bruce is now in training following a successful operation for prostate cancer. Dave has announced that he will not be seeking re-election in September after 5 years as CND Chair.
