Cardinal Murphy-O'Connor to lead Cardinal Winning's funeral
Cardinal Cormac Murphy O'Connor, will be principal celebrant at the Requiem Mass for Cardinal Thomas Winning in St Andrew's Cathedral, Glasgow on Monday. Hundreds of mourners have been coming to St Andrew's to sign books of condolences and pay their last respects to Cardinal Winning this week. His body is lying in state in the Archdiocesan offices. Tomorrow is the final day people may visit, between 8am and 8pm. On Sunday evening, the Cardinal's body will be carried from the offices into the cathedral. The evening prayer will be led by Mgr James Clancy, who has been appointed as Diocesan Administrator to run the diocese until a new Archbishop is chosen. Monday's sermon will be preached by Bishop Joseph Devine, the Bishop of Motherwell and a former Auxiliary Bishop in Glasgow. In order to cater for the thousands who wish to pay their respects, six outlying churches in the diocese will be broadcasting the funeral. They are St Eunan's, Clydebank; Holy Cross in Crosshill, Glasgow; St Thomas', Riddrie; Sacred Heart, Cumbernauld; St Patrick's, Dumbarton; and Our Lady and St George's, Penilee. The funeral will also be broadcast on radio and television by the BBC in Scotland.
