We pray for America tonight

Prayers are being said all over the UK for the victims of today's terrorist attacks in America. Mass at Westminster cathedral in London this evening was dedicated to the victims of the plane crashes. Among the congregation were several American visitors who were anxiously waiting news of loved one at home. During the homily, a statement by Cardinal Cormac Murphy-O'Connor, Archbishop of Westminster, was read, calling for prayers for those who have died, the injured, the bereaved and those left to cope with the aftermath of the tragedy. The Most Reverend Vincent Nichols, Archbishop of Birmingham, said: "I am deeply shocked by today's events in the United States of America. All people of decency and goodwill abhor these horrific acts of terrorism. "This is a decisive moment. Now people of goodwill everywhere will surely unite against all forms of terrorism. Callous disregard for human-life, on which terrorism is built, is an abomination in the sight of God and in our sight, too. "I pray to God for all who have died, for the countless injured and the grieving. I also pray for all who will now work for the restoration of order. "Jesus said: Blessed are the peacemakers."
