Bishop Malcolm McMahon to head Pax Christi

Bishop Malcolm McMahon, Bishop of Nottingham Diocese, has been appointed the new National President of Pax Christi, the International Catholic Movement for Peace. Bishop Malcolm takes on this role from Bishop Victor Guazzelli, who served the movement for more than twenty years. Bishop Malcolm, who is a Dominican said: "I am delighted to be able to work with Pax Christi, an organisation I have admired for many years. Together we can work to serve the cause of peace, as the Gospel demands, in a world which is in need of the practice of nonviolence, healing and reconciliation. I know that Bishop Guazzelli has given much time and energy to support Pax Christi during his time as President. I hope that I will be able to follow in his footsteps." One of Bishop Malcolm's first tasks has been to write to every parish in the country inviting them to celebrate Pope John Paul's peace message and support the work of Pax Christi on Sunday 20th January. This follows the reinstatement by the Bishops' Conference of the celebration of the World Peace Day on a Sunday.
