75 per cent of Britons see themselves as Christian


Three quarters of the UK population regard themselves as belonging to a Christian denomination - a new study has revealed. While other surveys have shown that around ten per cent of people in the UK regularly practice any faith - according to the survey, conducted jointly for the Church of England, Methodists, Baptists and Catholic weekly The Tablet, more than half, (52%) said they were Church of England. Ten per cent said they were Catholic and five per cent said they belonged to the Church of Scotland. A further eight per cent said they were Free Church, Methodist, or Baptist. Jews, Muslims and Hindus each accounted for one per cent of the population in the study.
