Candle lit service to remember victims of Soho pub bomb

The victims of the Soho gay pub bombing will be remembered this Sunday at 5pm in a special Mass at St Anne's Church, 55 Dean Street, Soho. Organised by the Lesbian and Gay Roman Catholic Caucus, 82 candles will be lit to remember Andrea Dykes, John Light and Nik Moore who were killed, and 79 who were injured in the bombing of The Admiral Duncan public house on 30 April 1999. A Caucus spokesperson said: '"The light and warmth of 82 candles on a Spring evening will be a powerful symbol of the energy flowing from those who died or were injured in this outrage. Our communities will never forget what happened Spring Bank Holiday weekend in 1999. These are our martyrs, celebrating diversity in all its richness: lesbian, gay and straight, people of colour and faith.' The 1st Sunday-in-the-month Mass was established at a Catholic convent in Camden Town this same weekend in 1999, moving to St. Anne's Church in June 2001, when the Convent property was sold. Future Masses are: 2 June, 7 July (Mardi Gras/Pride), 4 August, 1 September, 6 October, 3 November, 1 December (World AIDS Day. Remembrance is also made at the Mass of names recorded in the Catholic AIDS Memorial Book for each month and who have died from HIV related illness.
