Queen invites church leaders to sign Jubilee covenant

Leaders from the major churches in England will meet together for an historic consultation St George's House in Windsor on the weekend of June 1 - 2. On the Sunday morning, those present at the Churches Together in England (CTE) consultation will attend a service in St George's Chapel, Windsor at the invitation of Her Majesty The Queen. The service is to be broadcast live on BBC Radio 4 at 10.45am. Following the service, the four presidents of CTE: the Archbishop of Canterbury, Dr George Carey; the Cardinal Archbishop of Westminster, Cardinal Cormac Murphy-O'Connor; the Revd Tony Burnham, Moderator of the Free Churches Group and the Revd Esme Beswick, representing the smaller churches, will sign a personal covenant. The signing will take place in the Vicars Hall in the presence of Her Majesty the Queen. The covenant sets out their common understanding of the Christian faith and expresses their appreciation of the progress made in relation to unity between churches. They will commit themselves to continue the positive developments in their relationships. These include praying, working and consulting together, and joining together to work for justice. source: Archbishop's House
