New Year honours for CAFOD's Head of Latin America
Clare Dixon, the Head of CAFOD's Latin America and Caribbean section has been awarded an OBE in the Queen's New Year Honours list. Clare has been with CAFOD for nearly 25 years and is renowned for her commitment to development, justice and human rights for the people of Latin America. Director of CAFOD, Julian Filochowski, said: " We are absolutely delighted that Clare has been recognised in this way. Over the years she has stood alongside the people of Latin America in the midst of exploitation, appalling human rights abuses and sometimes military terror. She has always offered support in times of trouble. I think it would be fair to say she has been a very visible representation of the solidarity the Catholic Church in England and Wales has shown for Latin America." Clare, 49, who now lives in Central London was brought up in Hartlepool and educated by the Faithful Companions of Jesus. She is an expert in Latin American affairs and before joining CAFOD worked for the Chile Committee for Human Rights.
