David Blunkett to speak at Conference of Religious AGM
Home Secretary David Blunkett MP, will be the keynote speaker at the Conference of Religious Annual General Meeting, to be held at Swanwick in Derbyshire, from 27-30 January. The theme of this year's gathering will be 'a living theology in a changing context'. In a recent national review of pastoral projects and initiatives, it was found that there is often multi-collaboration between Catholic religious orders, and health and social carers in the community - sharing their resources and personnel to serve the poor and marginalized in British society. Religious orders make a tremendous contribution across a spectrum of activities, including work with the homeless, the elderly, asylum seekers, those with addiction problems, people with HIV/AIDS, in mental health, youth, family and children's services. The conference will discuss the partnership between the Government and faith communities and examine the role men and women religious play in bringing about social change.
