Exercises at Westminster Cathedral

An opera singer, an athlete and an art expert will be among 11 speakers who will be reflecting upon the Spiritual Exercises of St Ignatius Loyola, and relating aspects of them to their own lives, in a series of talks at Westminster Cathedral Hall during May and June. The six talks, entitled Kingdom Come, have been organised by the Westminster Cathedral Centre for Spirituality and Christian Life Community (CLC), with a view to helping people develop their prayer and spiritual lives. The themes over the six weeks will range from caring for creation to coping with terminal illness. The talks by the professionals in the world of politics, sport, the hospice movement, and the arts, will be followed by reflections by some of the most distinguished practitioners in the field of Ignatian spirituality, including Andrew Walker, director of the London Centre for Spiritual Direction, retreat-giver Sister Diane Reynolds, and Bob Costello SJ, who is a psychologist and national chaplain to CLC. Rita McManus from Christian Life Community says many people are discovering that the Spiritual Exercises of St Ignatius can be a potent resource for developing a more loving relationship with God, the world and each other. "What we're aiming to do in these meetings," says Rita, "is relate the Exercises to various forms of human existence and expertise, so that we can understand how they're rooted in ordinary human living. There'll be time for personal reflection and discussion, and in the final session, we'll conclude by celebrating with music what we'll have discovered about ourselves and about God's love for us." All talks will take place in Westminster Cathedral Hall and will start at 7pm. Admission is free, although people attending will be asked to make a donation. For more details see the ICN Listings Section. The series begins on Thursday 8 May with Geoff Wightman (athlete) and the author and teacher Gerard W Hughes SJ.
