Search is on for clergy super-models
Clergy in the north west have been issued with a catwalk challenge - to play a leading part in an ecclesiastical fashion show. Dog-collar super-models of all shapes and sizes are being sought across the region to display church vestments and leisurewear at the Northern Christian Resources Exhibition (G-Mex, Manchester, September 24-26). 'Clergy on the Catwalk' will be a highlight for thousands of people on the opening day of the event - often dubbed the 'ideal church show'. Deflated by being unable to secure Britain's first inflatable church as a star exhibit, CRE organisers decided to enliven the exhibition with a flavour of Paris. "Several colourful and energetic church textile designers will exhibit in Manchester," said St Helens-based CRE spokesman Stephen Goddard. "We need to recruit up to ten clergy - of both genders and any denomination - to model their latest creations." More than 5000 people are expected to visit the eighth Northern CRE at G-Mex, where everything from computers to communion wine, pilgrimages to pews will be on display. While hundreds of clergy visit the show, four out of five visitors will be ordinary church members. The three-day event will be opened by the Anglican Bishop of Liverpool, the Rt Rev James Jones.
