Westminster Cathedral welcomes new Canon

Congratulations to Father Pat Browne, who has been appointed as a member of the Westminster Cathedral Chapter of Canons. Fr Pat was formally installed as a Canon yesterday at the evening Chapter Mass, by the Cathedral Provost Canon Michael Brockie. The Cathedral's Chapter is the Cardinal's College of Consulters. They meet every month. In the inter-regnum between Archbishops, the College are responsible for the running of the Diocese.

Fr Pat is currently Parish Priest at Holy Apostles in Pimlico. From 1997 to 1984 he was a Chaplain at the Cathedral, with particular responsibility for the Liturgy. Following that he was Private Secretary to Cardinal Hume for four years. Before moving to Pimlico he was Parish Priest in Kentish Town for eight and a half years, then Diocesan Director of Vocations. He is currently Director of the Programme for Permanent Diaconate.

Besides his official priestly duties Father Pat, who has an excellent tenor voice, sings with the Clergy Review, who raise thousands of pounds for CAFOD each year from their shows around the UK. Last March Fr Pat visited church-based aid and reconciliation projects in Angola as part of an ecumenical delegation. Fr Pat wrote about the trip for the BBC and his report is also on ICN.
