Oxford: Fr Timothy Radcliffe to receive honorary doctorate


Father Timothy Radcliffe OP is to receive a Doctorate of Divinity honoris causa from the University of Oxford. The honour will be bestowed this Friday, by the new Chancellor, Chris Patten. Traditionally the Chancellor of the University, at the beginning of his term of office, has the right to propose honorandi to the University. The others who will receive Honorary Doctorates include Professor Giuliano Amato, former Prime Minister of Italy, Lord Carrington, the former Secretary of Defence, and Mario Vargas Llosa, the Peruvian novelist. Timothy Radcliffe was Master of the Dominican Order from 1992 until 2001. He has published two best sellers: 'Sing a New Song' and 'I Call You Friends'. He is based in Blackfriars, Oxford, and is in great demand as a preacher and lecturer throughout the world.
