Dazzling fundraiser for Cardinal Hume Centre

The Lord Mayor's Parlour in Westminster City Hall was transformed into a treasure trove last Thursday for a charity sale in aid of the Cardinal Hume Centre for homeless young people. Local dignitaries, the aristocracy and even the odd European royal graced the Aladdin's cave of attractions presented by ABCD Designs. The Lord Mayor also treated guests to one of the best views of London from the 18th floor of Westminster City Hall. The Cardinal Hume Centre was started in 1986 by Cardinal Basil Hume. Today the Centre has six separate projects: a hostel for 16 - 21 year olds providing skills development and counselling, a hostel for young people recovering from addiction, a daytime drop-in project, a family day centre, an education project and a resettlement project. All projects are aimed at providing people at risk with the skills and support to reshape their lives and sustain independent living. The Centre is currently embarking on an extension and modernisation program that will extend the number of beds in the hostel for young homeless people from 18 to 32 and carry out major improvements to its premises.
