Jim Wallis to launch CAP event in Manchester

Jim Wallis, the outspoken American preacher and human rights campaigner, is coming to Manchester on 3 July to kick off a series of Church Action on Poverty roadshow events on the theme of 'Act for a Change'. Act for a Change: working together to tackle poverty and economic injustice, takes place on Sat 3 July from 10am-4pm, at St Peters House, Oxford Road, Manchester. The Manchester event is co-sponsored by the Vincentian Millennium Partnership, Salvation Army, Speak, and the Zacchaeus Trust. Each Act for a Change event will include one or more keynote speakers, personal stories, testimonies and workshops. Jim Wallis is a Christian leader for social change and also a speaker, author, activist, and commentator on ethics and public life. He was a founder of Sojourners in Washington DC, and was instrumental in forming Call to Renewal, a national federation from across the theological and political spectrum working to overcome poverty in the USA. Anne Forbes, chair of Church Action on Poverty, said: "Come and find out how you and your church can get involved with overcoming poverty within your street, neighbourhood, city and country. Come and be inspired, challenged and encouraged by what is already happening and the tremendous opportunities for the Church to truly be salt and light in our nation."
