Deafblind Awareness Week
Deafblind Awareness week began yesterday with the opening of an exhibition at Westminster Cathedral. Around 23,000 people in the UK are deafblind. On Saturday, 27 November, a new ministry for them will be launched at The Cathedral with a special Mass celeberated by Bishop Bernard Longley, Bishop of Pastoral Affairs in Westminster Diocese and Fr Cyril Axelrod, a Redemptorist priest who is deafblind himself. Fr Cyril will offer training to volunteers to learn to guide and to communicate by hands-on manual alphabet with Deafblind people. He also gives pastoral care and the sacraments to the Deafblind community. For more information please contact: Lara Bennett on larabennett@rcdow.org.uk Tel: 020 7798 9152
