East London: faith-based campaigners to meet world economist
The East London Community Organisation (TELCO) a forum of Catholic, Anglican, Methodist, Jewish and Hindu community groups which campaign on a number of local issues, are hosting a meeting with world-renowned Professor Muhammad Yunus at their office in Whitechapel on Wednesday morning. Professor Yunis originated the concept of banking without collateral for the 'poorest of the poor' people in Bangladesh. The Grameen Bank, which he founded and manages, has provided loans to more than 2.4 million poor people, mainly women, in 41,536 villages in Bangladesh.
